We have thought up something special for Valentine’s Day: up until 14 February we will have a category in our app that features all the products you need to make your loved one happy on the most romantic day of the year.

Whoever clicks on “Around Me” between now and February 14 will see “Valentine’s Day” as the top category. Click on this category to find shops nearby that offer everything to make your partner happy on the day, such as chocolate, lingerie, jewellery and, of course, flowers. It is particularly handy for spur-of-the-moment shoppers looking for the right shop in their immediate proximity.

This is a test run of the new feature. If it works well for you then we could imagine repeating it for Easter, 1 August or Christmas. We would welcome your feedback.

We would in any case like to wish you and your loved ones a very romantic Valentine’s Day.

The title “Best app of all time” sounds a little strange, as the App Store has not been around for long. We’re delighted nonetheless.

Missed call on your mobile and you don’t know the number? With a simple trick you can find out who tried to call you.

I was back from a meeting and I noticed that I had a missed call on my iPhone. I didn’t know the number. Using the local.ch-App, there is a simple way to find out what number tried to call you. Just follow these steps:

• First of all, copy the phone number in the clipboard, ‘tap and hold’ on the phone number and click ‘copy’
• Open the local.ch application and paste the phone number in the search field
• Click search and see who tried to reach you

It seems that the Swisscom shop from Stadelhofen tried to reach me. That was great news, I knew that my new iPhone4 was waiting for me to be picked up in the store!

Two weeks ago, the maps on local.ch received an update. Before the aerial imagery (provided by Google) was pretty old, most of the photos were from 2002. The updated orthophoto material is from 2009 and it covers whole Mittelland, Jura and the northern part of Graubünden.

The local.ch Phonebook, Yellow Pages and the Event Search are now available on TV!

With the new Internet compliant Philips Net TV, you can search for private addresses, businesses and local events via the local.ch Phonebook, YellowPages and Event Search.

Features:

We have adapted the functionality of our Phonebook, YellowPages and Event Search, so that the navigation is possible via a standard TV remote control. The maps, which display the search results, work particularly well on a big TV screen.

Design:

The new local.ch service via the TV appears on a black background. This is unusual for local.ch. We have chosen softer colors, which make the usage of the site equally good in a darkened, comfortable tv-light setting.

We are happy to provide our users an additional channel for using local.ch as well as the mobile and computer web.
