local.ch market
We release our classifieds platform which we did in cooperation with Fundgrueb, the well-known classifieds newspaper in the German part of Switzerland. You can try it out on market.local.ch. It’s still in early beta. Actually when you go to local.ch without that direct link, you won’t even see the section in the navigation, yet.
We are proud about quite a few things. Probably the most visible part is the way you create new listings. In the form we try out a few new approaches so we don’t overwhelm the users when they add listings. The new listing is presented as it will look in the detail view. On clicking a part, the user can edit it and then apply or discard the changes on a field-by-field basis. It’s similar to how Flickr and other sites do it nowadays, but I have not yet seen that for such a big editing form. Because of that it was a lot of work to make it usable. If you have any feedback or suggestions about that, you’re welcome!
We also invested quite some work in the upload functionality. Thanks to a progress bar you actually see how much time is left for the upload process. That’s a huge improvement to the typical upload process where you have no choice but to wait until it’s done without the slightest knowledge how much time you have to wait.
Cédric did a screencast to show how it looks and works:
Have fun! And as always, we’d like to hear your impressions.

In the past few weeks I was mainly busy creating the new local.ch market. It’s actually in cooperation with Fundgrueb, a very well known and traditional classifieds newspaper in the German part of Switzerland. I created a longer posting on the local

Impressive! Works even with my firefox-extension conkeror.
The input form is very good.
Two things I did wrong at my first try:
- I first tried to spot the location on the map instead of just adding the address. I misinterpreted “Legen Sie den Artikelstandort fest, damit Ihr Inserat auf der Karte angezeigt werden kann”, later I realized that I can input my address in one of the input boxes left. Probably the message on the map that appears could be made more clear even for
dumb users like me?
- the default behaviour when I click on “title”, edit the text and then click on another field without clicking “übernehmen” is that the input will be discarded. I expected that my input will be saved.
